High Performance Tyres
Avon, Bridgestone/Firestone, Continental (who took over Uniroyal), Goodyear, Kumho, Matador, Michelin, Pirelli, Toyo, Vredestein and Yokohama are all manufacturers of car tyres but they are also involved in the high performance market to a greater or lesser extent.
The research and development of these car tyres is extremely advanced to ensure safety above all. Compounds are formulated to reduce heat build up in high performance conditions and as you would expect, priority is given to grip, traction and responsiveness in dry and wet driving conditions. For demanding drivers state-of-the-art precision engineering in high performance tyres means exceptional handling and the capability navigate corners at high speed capabilities. Enhanced comfort and reduced noise levels are also part of the mix.
The production of high performance tyres is influenced by Formula 1 technology for today's high performance compacts, executive saloons and super-sport models. This is certainly true of Bridgestone, for example, whose range of Potenza HP tyres is highly regarded, in particular the RE050. The Conti Sport Contact2 is also highly rated and Goodyear, who is the most successful tyre manufacturer in Formula 1 history, makes the world-renowned Eagle F1 - a very reliable high performance tyre.
Avon and Pirelli have been just two of the contenders hoping to win the Formula 1 tyre contract this year. Pirelli has strong links with Formula 1 and it's P6000 and recently launched Pilot Sport 3 tyres have received considerable acclaim. Avon has a notable reputation as a major player in the world of motorsport and produces the very popular ZV3 and ZZ3 ultra high performance tyres for the retail market.
