General Tyres:
The General Tire & Rubber Company was founded in 1915 by two businessmen from Ohio who decided to produce premium replacement tyres and pneumatic truck tyres - as there were already 300 companies making conventional tyres at that time. During the years that followed General Tire was a leading innovator, revolutionizing manufacturing with the invention of the low pressure General Balloon Jumbos followed by further breakthroughs such as carbon black latex, oil extended rubber and Gen-tech adhesive for tyre cord.
General went on to become a premium tyre manufacturer and was on the original equipment list of all the major truck manufacturers. General successfully diversified into various industries achieving multi-business corporation status. Their expansion included opening up multiple tyre plants in North America.
In 1987, Continental AG - a leading tyre manufacturer based in Germany purchased the tyre division of General Tire, Inc. and later regrouped as Continental Tire North America, Inc. and collectively became the fourth largest tyre manufacturer in the world.
General Tire is now well known for its hardwearing, long-lasting, great value premium tyres for passenger cars, 4x4s, pickup trucks and commercial vehicles. Its extensive range includes the General Grabber UHP - a high tech tyre providing great handling and traction on wet and dry road surfaces alike for the SUVs. The General Grabber AT2 is an aggressive tyre offering exceptional traction over all terrains and has self-cleaning technology which enhances its off-road and wet traction performance. A highly versatile, high performance tyre with superb handling is the General Grabber HP with excellent wet braking capabilities and durability.
