Michelin Tyres:

Michelin is based in Claremont-Ferrand where two brothers, Edouard and Andre Michelin set up rubber factory in 1888 and developed their own version of the pneumatic tyre in 1891. Always a highly innovative company, they produced a radial tyre in 1946.

Recent developments include the Michelin PAX which is a run-flat using a special type of rim and tyre. The semi-rigid ring installed onto the rim of the tyre provides support to the tyre and the sidewall to allow a driver to continue travelling temporarily at a certain speed until the tyre can be replaced.

The wide range of car tyres that Michelin now manufacture includes the Michelin Energy-Saver, Michelin Pilot Exalto 2, Michelin Primacy HP, Michelin Pilot Sport and under the 4x4 banner they produce the Michelin Diamaris, the Michelin Latitude, the Michelin 4x4 O/R, the Michelin 4x4 A/T and Michelin Synchrone.

In 1988 Michelin acquired the tyre and manufacturing divisions of B F Goodrich and two years later it bought Uniroyal in the States. Michelin is currently the largest tyre manufacturer in the world.
